FAQ

A cosplay contest is an event where individuals (or groups) dress up as their favorite pop culture character(s) and pose or perform on stage for event attendees to watch. Some of these cosplayers make their own outfits and some specialize in performance art.

As we have divided the competition this year to allow performance-based and craftsman cosplayers, there will be two sets of requirements:

  • Craftsman Applicants: Costume must be 65% handmade or more. Applicant cannot use costume that was made by someone else and model it; costume MUST be made by the applicant.
    • Solo Craftsman are given 30 seconds to 1 minute to pose and/or perform a simple act on stage.
    • Group Craftsman are given 1 to 3 minutes to pose and/or perform a simple act on stage.
  • Performance Applicants: Performance cosplayers do not need to make their costumes. Performance must be family friendly (PG). No profane lyrics or words may be used in the audio provided. Performance props must meet convention prop guidelines.
    • Solo Performers will have 1 to 2 minutes on stage to perform.
    • Group Performers will have 2 to 3 minutes on stage to perform.

Yes, however, please know that you will only have 15-30 seconds to set up and tear down your stage set. UwU Con will not have enough stage hands to help you so you may need to bring help.

Please see the CosTalk LIVE booth before your performance to inform us of any assistance you may need getting onto the stage.

NOTE: If you or a member in your group cannot climb steps, please inform us of that in your application so we can make arrangements to accommodate you.

If you are a Craftsman Applicant you will be required to attend pre-judging. Pre-judging will take place at the CosTalk LIVE booth in Hall A between 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 28th. Craftsman Applicants will receive a judging time when their application acceptance email is sent out. You MUST be in costume for pre-judging.

Performance Applicants are not required to attend pre-judging.

Yes. Audio must be submitted during application. Your audio will be screened by the cosplay coordinators. Audio MUST be PG. Any audio considered vulgar or inappropriate will be denied. If you do not submit new audio then we will use our own music selection.
